Daphnes Roots High Altitude Vines 2025 - Kanakaris Winery
Daphnes Roots High Altitude Vines 2025 - Kanakaris Winery
Wine Kanakaris Winery - Made from vines planted at 750 metres overlooking the Ionian Sea, in the coastal wine-growing region of Aigialia (or Egiale), Daphnes Roots High Altitude Vines has benefited from a temperate climate and poor soil. Characteristic of the north-western Peloponnese, the clay-limestone soils of Archaia provide the ideal growing conditions for Mavrodaphne. Primarily cultivated around Patras, where it is used to produce a fortified red wine full of character, this indigenous grape variety is also the basis for dry red wines, such as Daphnes Roots. Certified as PGI Slopes of Aigialia, a local geographical indication attesting to its distinctiveness, the 2025 vintage combines ageing in stainless steel vats and French oak barrels. On the nose, it offers a bouquet of ripe black fruits, with subtle spicy and oaky notes. This impression continues on the palate, where the velvety texture lends body and depth. An ideal wine to accompany a pre-dinner drinks reception, with savoury and sweet canapés.
