Rouge 2022 - Domaine Bordaxuria

Wine Domaine Bordaxuria - On the steep slopes of Ispourre, Elorri and Brice craft a wine each year that reflects their unique terroir: 9.5 hectares of red sandstone, 108 terraces carved out over 30 years ago, at an altitude of 307 metres. The vines, managed semi-manually, are tended with patience: using a brush cutter and a pickaxe, and relying on natural protection against disease through herbal infusions and organic soil amendments. This 2022 vintage is a blend of Tannat (60%) and Cabernet Franc (40%), grown on very well-drained, shallow soils facing due south. Each grape variety is vinified separately, with a long vatting period, gentle punching down and pumping over, then aged 80% in concrete vats and 20% in used barrels, with no additives apart from a little sulphur at bottling. The result is a structured red, powerful yet elegant, reflecting the rigour and respect for the Basque terroir. With its freshness and depth, this wine can be kept for up to 10 years and is best enjoyed at 16°C, pairing well with red meats, game or hearty dishes.
